Joey Cakes did you not only finish what Mayor Dorothy Kelly Gay started with Call 311?

Good work Mr. Mayor. I've been impressed with the response times when I've used it.

Being able to get the Yard Waste Stickers etc. at City Hall is a great idea. Adding convenience for our residents.

Money Pit

another bloated department. You call 311 and they call the department responsible. Another wasted step.

Oh hush up, Money Pit. It's super useful. Every time I've needed to call them they've been polite and helpful. I don't always know which department I need. A real live person who understands how our city works on the other end is invaluable.

Michael Black

311 is an utter waste of money. I was told by the woman at 311 that it was not the city's job to investigate claims of illegal immigrant workers in Manhattan.

Maybe they think it's my job?

Ron Newman

Huh? Of course it's not Somerville's job to investigate things happening in some other state.

I just want to say that 311 is a GREAT service. I have used it twice, and the results have been impressive. I called to complain about a trip hazard in front of my house where tree roots had raise up the sidewalk. In less than a week, a crew was out repaving the sidewalk!

Then I complained about neighbors who weren't careful when taking out their weekly trash, and the trash was flowing out into the street and blowing into neighbors' yards. I don't know exactly how they handled it, but the problem hasn't happened since.

So for the skeptics... I'd say this is a very useful service, and I'm happy the city provides it.

I recently came across your blog and have been reading along. I thought I would leave my first comment. I don't know what to say except that I have enjoyed reading. Nice blog. I will keep visiting this blog very often.
