Two fires, a kidnapping and a life sentence – we are thinking that’s about as serious a news-week here in Somerville as it gets.
This isn’t the time of year for people to get bogged down with serious issues, but some things are beyond our control. At least we can make sure that Bill Shelton and his musings on the serious issue of global warming shares a page with remembrances from days long gone by Jimmy DelPonte. Hey it could be worse – Jamie could have written about some crazy holiday party he went to 20 years ago, but now that he is making a return to local politics we probably won’t see his special brand of crazy for a while – unless he comes through with a Holiday Poem for us (he has hinted around about it).
Now there’s something to look forward to.
As we gear up for our annual Christmas Party (some say legendary in its own right) and run around like chickens with our heads cut off this weekend and next with other peoples parties, we want to remind everyone who reads our paper – in print and online - to NOT drink and drive. Listen, life is just too valuable to risk losing in a blink of an eye or the tip of a glass – so consider this a “mini-PSA.”
So aside from holiday celebrations and musings of important and not so important stuff, we as a group look forward to decorating trees, real or fake, enjoying the holidays and spending time with loved ones – family or otherwise.
As we look back on 2007, which is rapidly coming to a close, we are thankful for many things personally and professionally – even politically. In the next couple of weeks we will look back on this past year and then look ahead to 2008 and look into our crystal ball of sorts. Maybe we will be right, maybe we will get it all wrong, but at least we will putting something together to share with the people that make our newspaper popular both in print and online – the readers.
Even though most of us here remember a time when the “Internet” was nothing more than a pseudo-governmental communication vehicle, we are pleased that our weblog has become so popular. Sure there are idiots who can’t help themselves and post some crazy stuff on there, but overall, it’s a fairly level-headed group who debate and discuss things in a somewhat orderly fashion. Well, except for Imux, but let’s not go there.
Don't Drink and Drive? Well Maybe James will just tell ue what happens if you!

Yeah... Merry Christmas to you too. I guess.
Sincerely,

Jimmy's remembrances are a welcome antidote to my own musings for me as well. Thanks, Jimmy.
