Seems pretty quiet with the alderman at large race and even though we have even seen Tony LaFuente out there working hard, as well as Fred Berman, we don’t see these two upsetting the present incumbents - Desmond, Sullivan, White and Connolly. It has been a while since an incumbent alderman at large was voted out of office – the last being Vinny Ciampa – and before him we can’t remember the last one.
*********
Ward 5 candidate for Alderman Joe Lynch is causing quite a stir with his Web site and the videos about his opponent - Alderman Sean O’Donovan. We have to admit we didn’t think Sean was that big of a developer here in the city - it doesn’t make him a bad person - but now we understand why he defends certain developers. Check out the videos for yourself at www.lynchforalderman.com
*********
Now in Ward 6, the Princess just might pull it out this time - she’s so confident she was overheard telling someone that “we have the numbers to win in Ward 7” - apparently she does know Ms. Heller and is openly supporting her candidacy against Ward 7 Alderman Bob Trane. Seems that Rebekah feels it’s all done in Ward 6 and she can now butt into another ward. Will this mean if Heller wins we will have two Princesses? Isn’t it popular amongst “Royalty” to refer to themselves as “we”? Rebekah, don’t count Charlie out yet, he’s been quietly working very hard on the campaign trail and has a web site - www.chisholmwardsix.com - remember what happened to Marty in the special with Jack coasting into office because the so-called Progressives got overconfident?
**********
Ward 7 Alderman Bob Trane hosted a huge fundraiser Monday night at PJ Ryan’s in Teele Square and it was a success - a very mixed crowd of long time residents and newcomers…which is what we need to see more of these days. For over three hours people from all over the city and the ward in particular showed up to give their support to Bob - he’s a gentleman and has a great family with all the Nancy’s to back him up.
**********
We mentioned this last week - hopefully Rick Scirocco will take down his signs now that he has lost the primary - and we urge all candidates to take their signs down immediately after the final is over. There should be an ordinance in the city passed that if you run for public office and you have signs up, they need to come down within seven days after the election.
*********
Speaking of signs, here’s a good one - we promised we wouldn’t use the names here, so you will have to use your imagination a little bit. It seems that a new Winter Hill resident from a very old old Somerville family bought a house and moved in about four months ago on a street between Central and Marshall. His neighbors are pretty strong supporters of Mayor Joe and live a couple of houses down from this new neighbor. Well, the new neighbor went door to door trying to find out who owned a couple of the houses that has Curtatone signs on the fences – he wound up finding the owner – part of a family that has lived there for 60 or more years – and asked him to take the signs down. The owner told this new neighbor politely that they were on his property and when the election was over he would take the signs down. At first we weren’t surprised by this story, because it happens all the time, but when we found out what two families were involved, it was shocking to say the least – anyone want to take a guess at who they were?
**********
Happy Birthday this week to Donald Norton, publisher of The Somerville News on Thursday…also, well known resident Richard Hart and Mama Emily Tauro are also celebrating their birthdays this week – Emily still has people convinced that she is only 39!
*********
Best wishes to Ms. Ruth Buonomo, the mother of Register of Probate John Buonomo, who spent the better part of last week in the hospital - we wish her well and a speedy recovery.

Recent copy of the “Poets and Writers” had a front-page picture and inside story of Somerville poet and Bagel Bard member Affa Michael Weaver. Great article about him and it was very interesting - the reporter referred to Somerville as a “gentrified suburb of Boston.” Affa is the author of the newly released poetry collection “Plum Flower Dance” and was in the Somerville News Writers Festival in 2005. Job well done. Speaking of the Writers Festival, we hope everyone knows by now
that it has been moved to the George Dilboy Post at 371 Summer Street just outside Davis Square for Sunday Nov. 11 at 7 p.m. Go to the www.thesomervillenews.com and click on the link to the events Web site.
********
For all the doubters out there, we’re now averaging between 1,100 to 1,300 unique hits to our web site - www.thesomervillenews.com - that’s up from 800 to 1,000 just a month and a half ago…for five weeks now we haven’t gone below 1,100 during the week. We’re still growing both in print and online.
Ridiculous speculation.

Yeah... this moonbat (Rachel Heller) is on record as saying she would raise our taxes to provide MORE services and housing to illegals. Her whole campaign is about more spending... and more spending. Hey Rach, where are you egtting all that money? Oh yeah... more taxes on us residents and businesses. None of whom you've ever taken the time tp speak with.
All her positions are based on providing services (increase spending!!!)to low income people and illegals (we do too much for them already!)- none are meant to help the middle class or working person. She actually wants to crush the everyday man/woman under an increased tax burden. What an out-of-touch moonbat!
Her positions:
1. Increase Property taxes
2. ADD more housing for illegals and provide that housing FREE
3. College tuitions for illegals - PAID for by US
4. School lunches for illegals - PAID for by US
4. Let the illegals get licenses - PAID for by US
5. Build/expand the housing projects by taking city owned land
6. Pro-Gay/Lesbian and anti-God propaganda taught in the schools
6. The rest of her positions are the same PDS crap yapping about the evnvironment, foreign policy and other nonesense that they have zero power to affect.
Does anyone in Ward 7 really want this fool as their alderman? She has ZERO business even running in Ward 7 as all she is doing is hiding behind the PDS machine. She has no idea who actually lives in the ward (I do) and owns businesses in the ward (I do). Why? Because she is too busy meeting with her PDS masters to meet with the folks who actually live in her ward and/or own small businesses here. Plus, she doesn't even know anyone in the ward as she JUST moved here and has made no attempt to meet us.
Hey Rachel, I am sure you're a nice person and all, but you should move to ward 6 (or Cambridge) and battle that other imbecile (Rebecca) for her district. We don't want you here as our alderman and it is an insult to our intelligence that your PDS masters had the audacity to throw you into the race.

Where is the record where she said that? .

Election, first good to see you fighting the urge to post as others. Must be killing you, huh? Anyway, James wants no links, so suffice it to say to check her website and the site she links to (PDS and from there moveon.org, michaelmoore.com). It's all there.
Sadly, this woman (Rachel Heller) -- who has never paid a bill in her life -- now wants access to our wallets. Over my dead body.

Oh... oh... better kill the italics.
Posted by: Imux | October 28, 2007 at 11:19 AM
Rachel Heller means HIGHER TAXES and an end to the middle class and working call residents of Ward 7.
Posted by: Imux | October 28, 2007 at 11:20 AM
Imux, I never post under a different name. Perhaps you are the one who does. I checked the sites. No mention of increasing taxes to give free housing to illegal immigrants.
Posted by: Election | October 28, 2007 at 11:20 AM
Election, you and I both know the truth on posting, but whatever....
Did you get little Rachel's mailer? If so, read it ... and weep. It is on her website and that of the PDS too.
Posted by: Imux | October 28, 2007 at 11:23 AM
Imux, you sound desparate in trying to go after Rachel.
Maybe it's because you know she actually HAS been working hard, knocking on doors, and getting a good response?!?!
Give me a break, you sound like Karl Rove!

No, Imux, I know the truth about myself, which is what I stated. I SUSPECT you've been posting under other people's names but I have no proof.

I own a business and a house in Ward 7. Yet to hear her knock on either door. Working hard? Where - in Davis square maybe. Oh... I must need one of those rainbow flags as - the rumor is - she prefers those folks.

What business is that? Illegal immigrant smuggling operation? :D

Homeland Security and ICE specialist. Libs like you ship 'em in and I ship 'em out!

Tony Lafuente came by the house and shook my hand today and asked for my vote. I've had no other pro-active contact from any other candidates except for the robo-messages from Sullivan which I found annoying (c'mon ... 4 messages about your travellig road show?) I asked Tony what he considered to be the issues facing my ward and his views are in line with mine (crime, developing St. Ann's properly, cleaning up the contamination down by Brickbottom). It means a lot for someone running for office to actually show their face and talk to me. He'll certainly have one of my votes for At-Large.

Sullivan's messages were VERY annoying. The piece of crap literature he sent is not good either.
I'm definitely voting for LaFuente!
Posted by: Election | October 28, 2007 at 02:14 PM
No f*ing way! I'm in that business too!
Posted by: Election | October 28, 2007 at 02:16 PM
What is the issue with St. Ann's property? I haven't followed this at all.
Posted by: Ron Newman | October 28, 2007 at 04:26 PM
Tony Lafuenete was at my door last week - the only candidate so far! I am giving him a vote. I have three left - the next three candidates that knock on my door get them.

I'll agree with "He's the Traniac" that "Ugly Betty" has been knocking the ward, but it's a tough battle. Trane's got the numbers, sorry Becky! The Martinez piece was a stupid move, should have picked another ward.

I noticed that someone questioned what Heller has done in the city. The answer is zero. She does not belong to any local groups besides the PDS. She has a line on her lit that says 10 years of working for change. Where? Not here.
I am a life long resident and until she pulled papers I had not seen her at a single community event. I did watch her performance at a recent event and I was shocked when she said she would raise taxes. As a home owner living on a fixed retirement income I can't afford more taxes. I can just get by as it is. The bottom line. I can not afford to vote for her. Go Trane

Did anyone see the front of the Boston Globe World Series section today? Tony Lafuente is the man - hanging that Sox banner...Go sox & Go Tony for Alderman-at-Large

Wow -- missed that entirely until you mentioned it!
