American Civil Liberties Union organizers and volunteers from the Lucy Parsons Center shared Davis Square with left-leaning brass bands honking out raucous tunes last weekend as The Honk Festival rolled into town for the second straight year. The festival kicked off Friday afternoon at Tufts University's Distler Performance Hall with "The Philosophy of Honk: Street Bands, Civic Engagement, and Social Change," a symposium featuring a performance by the Original Big Seven Social Aid & Pleasure Club from New Orleans and a panel discussion including ethnomusicologist Charles Keil, author of "Urban Blues." The evening concluded with an open discussion on HONK! band politics with the Brass Liberation Orchestra in Somerville's Dilboy VFW Hall, and a jam session at the Abbey Lounge in Inman Square. But the main show took place in Davis Square Saturday afternoon as the bands marched, danced, stilted and stomped their way around five stations (7 Hills Park, Statue Park, Davis Square Plaza, Redbones, and Dilboy VFW Hall.)

The fact of the matter is that you cannot refute the basic fact that you liberals are eroding the basic values that made this nation great. Imux, Liberals and Democrats do not support terrorists and their ideology. They do support us losing in Iraq. They support a victory for Iran and Al Queda against our President and the troops in Iraq. I say this not as an insult to the Democrats, but applauding the only strategy that they can use to take over the House, Senate and the White House itself. Bravo, I applaude you for this. As in the past and it will happen again in the future, democrats will implode and lose control of Washington DC. Perhaps, before they lose control, they can rewrite the constitution and bill of rights thus telling us what the Founding Fathers really meant to say. Socialism with democrats in "control for life".

Liberal is not the same as left--which is not the same as socialist--and none of these political philosophies have any connection with the combat tactic known as terrorism. It would be nice if people tried to understand something about politics before tearing each other to pieces over it. There are enough real disagreements without fighting over these imaginary ones.
