The Mole

Any truth regarding the rumor that one of the last city Planners gave her resignation effective 9/8/07?

The questions should be asked as to why all these people are leaving the employment of SPCD.

The Mole

Ron Newman

Alice Martin (pronounced "Elise") left Somerville to return to New Orleans. The Journal's website has a story about her, as does last Sunday's Globe City Weekly.

thenoseknows

the real news of the week is pn spending 40 years with dn! i cant figure out if she should get a parade down broadway. a bronze statue in ball sq. or $100,000,000 and a governors reprieve for time served! congratulations and good luck to you both on your next 40 years.

The Somerville Police Honor Gaurd is deceiving!

The Somervile Police Honor Gaurd is a bunch of "useful Idiots"! The comp time and over time is outa control. Somebody should look into this deception.

You Are A Clown

Obviously, this was written by a clown with no honor who wouldn't give a second to the City or the Police Department.

Stop the hate you dope! We're proud of these people and what they've done. Just because you suck doesn't mean that everyone else does.

KaChow

Sounds like someone in union square doesnt like the police honor guard. Is it the word "HONOR" that scares you?

Honor the Police

Funny, people clap when the Police Honor Guard walks down Highland Ave. in the Memorial Day Parade. Noone's complaining about the cost then, or when they appear at the funeral of a fallen officer.
Get a life!

Say No More

It's not about cost, it's about class. Those officers who stand tall next to our flag have it, and a few malcontents who tarnish their badges every day want to steal that class.

Not going to happen.

Imux

Well, you know what I always say: There's only two types of honor in this world and that is to get "on her" and stay "on her".

Ron Newman

With a remark like that, I guess you must be supporting Rick Scirocco for mayor.

Imux

Ron, I have a funny feeling where you stand on many local issues, but just for shits and giggles can you enlighten us? I would think that you already know my positions on these, but you really post nothing of consequence - just snide parting comments and then run off.

Feel free to expand on your answers and justify them, please. You never know, you may change a few of our stances with the eloquence of your arguments.

I'll stick to local issues.

1. Illegal Immigrants and sanctuary city? For or against.

2. Subsidizing "artists" with space and grants (taxpayer's money). For or against.

3. Decrease the tax burden on residents/businsses? For or against.

4. Women in davis square? Should they finally bathe and maybe shave their legs/armpits? For or against.

5. Should we remove all urinals in davis square? From what I see most of the guy's in that area squat to take a leak anyway.

Thanks in advance for your time. Maybe we have more in common than I think we do.

it *is* funny

Anyone else wish Imux would just go away?

Imux

ahhhh... it's nice to see that chivalry is not dead. it is funny has come to the rescue of his boyfriend! Bravo!

Do you liberals ever debate facts or do you just flee when confronted with them? Don't even bothering answering - I already know the answer.

Oh yeah...I ain't going anywhere. Deal with it. K?

craig

How come I got blocked from posting for a while after I wrote with legitimate criticism of the News... and Imux gets to keep posting offensive crap left and right? I always tell my son to ignore his younger brother when the little one is trying to get a reaction. Perhaps we can all do the same with Imux...we're only giving him what he wants when we respond to him.

it *is* funny

Good question Craig -- how come "men squatting to take a leak" is okay for the imbicile Imux to post and the News staff is all over the other crass attempts on this blog?

And you've reminded me ... don't feed the trolls. He/she is just trying to get a reaction. Ignore.

Ignatius J. Reilly

Imux, while most of us agree with what you're saying you may want to just tone it down. Mesage is good - delivery needs some poliching. It seems you've have the leftists all running amuck now.

Say No More

Nice point Iggy.

it *is* funny

Most of the people here agree with statements like:

"Well, you know what I always say: There's only two types of honor in this world and that is to get "on her" and stay "on her"."

Really???

Names Jorton

Imux, you are a f**king drunk. Shut the f**k up and get off my blog! We are trying to have an adult conversation here.

Everybody, if you don't stop this b*llshi* I'll have to stop ALL posting on this site. Is that what you want? Then you'll have to just read what we write. You are all guests here, don't forget that retards!

And now let me go back to my meetings (editors note - nice touch!)

NJ

James Norton

Ok chuckleheads -

Just in case anyone couldn't tell the previous post WASN'T me and still didn't get it after I edited the expletives and then added an "editor's note" to it - I did not post that salacious comment. Doesn't mean I don't agree with it, oh hell no, it just wasn't me. Ok, everyone back to playing in the sandbox.

Dr. Mrs. -

Glad to have you back, buttercup - look for me tonight by the gazebo. Smoochies.

"DRUG SUSPECT LEADS POLICE ON WILD CHASE"
According to police reports at district court "bad guy" was chased by "JIMMY THE CANNIBAL" and "MIKEY ROIDS" through Somerville city streets. PUBLIC RECORDS say that JH was in a car chase through city streets during rush hour. PUBLIC RECORDS say that pedestrians had to "SCURRY FOR THEIR LIVES" to avoid the police chase. PUBLIC RECORDS say that JH and SICKBOY MIKEY engaged in and remained in a car chase through bus stops "And pedestrians had to scurry for their lives" (JH's words). JH chased car down the wrong way on ONE WAY STREETS / and .....are you ready... FOR 2 BLOCKS ON A SIDEWALK THROUGH PORTER SQUARE. PUBLIC RECORD says that JH was driving this way in an "UNMARKED POLICE CAR" with NO SIREN OR BLUE LIGHTS. This POLICE CHASE was done WITHOUT authorization of the patrol supervisor.
When this "HIGH SPEED CHASE" finally ended (in Cambridge) bad guy was arrested for misdemeanor charges. No drugs, No guns, No gang-banger. Does the story end here? NO, next we'll talk about state police chase where 2 people died in Ball Square area, Mayor Joe's view on UNAUTHORIZED HIGH SPEED POLICE CHASES, and the somerville police PURSUIT POLICY.

I wrote above: "How come I got blocked from posting for a while after I wrote with legitimate criticism of the News... and Imux gets to keep posting offensive crap left and right? I always tell my son to ignore his younger brother when the little one is trying to get a reaction. Now I've been blocked again. I'm coming from a different connection as I post this - can't post from home anymore. This just proves that the Somerville News really isn't endorsing anything close to free speech. That in and of itself would be acceptable, but the fact that people like Imux post hateful messages completely unfettered makes me think that (1) the SN endorses those views, and/or (2) "Imux" works at the SN. I'll be reading the Somerville Journal from now on.

The Mole

Why are mine and your tax dollars going to the DPW to have three of their vehicles traveling down Route 93 south bound around 3:30 PM on this fine Sunday afternoon?

Now they could have been in a parade but I doubt that. The more believable thought is that they were coming back from that seasonal getaway, Moultonboro, helping some of the rich and famous that claim stake to land there. Now someone must have had some trees removed and maybe a cesspool or two cleaned out. For the three vehicles traveling in a caravan were the Bucket Truck, Tree truck hauling behind with the Chipper and the sewer truck, with it's long elephant like trunk that sucks up everything and anything.

Imagine, out tax dollars going to NH to help out some rich sole and the DPW workers manning the trucks like it was a casual afternoon in the “Ville”. Well it could have been like the "Ville" since so many of them "Ville residence" have moved up there.

I am just discussed at the goings on and the nonchalant attitude of Boss Hog.

The Mole

MoleWakeUp

FYI - Mole moron. The Somerville DPW was part of a truck show in Burlington MA today. There were several trucks from several areas.

Imux

Mole, I wonder how much it costs us to have the DPW attend events in other towns. I'm assuming they're getting overtime.

Craig, what are you whining about now!? My posts reflect opinions and facts, but sometimes I like to toss in a joke for a little levity to lighten the joint up. I really don't care which joke that you found offensive... grow a set of nuts and quit the whining. K?

Your a bunch of sad people

Mad and Sad SMEA members , or should I say childish members. What do you make? 35k a year? haha! Cant take it that a 30 somthing man makes a boat load of money, while you break your ass. That sucks huh? Maybe they should change his title again; would that make you even more jealous?

BTW, you have the family tree wrong and your mising a few members! Losers!!
Don't you people have any other hobbys than talking about the city; GET a life!

Another sad member of S.M.E.A.

You make 75K a year and don't even know how to spell, how sad!!!

Get It Right

Craig,
Imux's comments conform with current Federal law. How is that hateful?

You SHOULD NOT be banned from this site, however. I respect and value your opinion. I implore the News to refrain from that practice and let us have an open discussion on the site. SN, please lift Craig's ban.

Don't go to the Journal, Craig. That paper is the epitome of amateur reporting.

Thanks.

Ron Newman

I think encouraging people to report on their neighbors, instead of trying to get along with them, can induce hate. It certainly doesn't build community.

What has Craig said to merit banning from this site?

Private Eye

Craig, you are on target. SN endorses these views AND Imux is closely associated with the SN. Objective proof is available to anybody who wants it. Perhaps an article in the Somerville Journal would be fun. A bit of a local scandal, actually, when you consider all the ramifications.
Remember that the SN was created with the sole purpose of benefiting a certain local real estate company. By directly advertising, by doing the little they can to promote politicians friendly to the way they do business, and by trying to push for conservative ideas that would be good for their business.

Ron Newman

And yet, the news articles in this paper have been generally sympathetic to immigrants.

Imux

Ron squealed "I think encouraging people to report on their neighbors, instead of trying to get along with them, can induce hate. It certainly doesn't build community.

What has Craig said to merit banning from this site?"

Ron, neighbors? Please check their passports and/or real licenses. If they are illegally here (and these are the only people I advocate reporting) then I guarantee they don't have a valid Somerville address. Their real legal residence is in Brazil, Poland, Bulgaria, Guatamala or somewhere that is no where that house they happen to squatting in. So... exactly how are they your neighbors... unless you have a house in another country they are not your neighbors.

Also, it is our duty to report suspicious activity in our neighborhoods - no matter if you agree with the crime or not. If you know of people who came here illegally and are staying here illegally then it is your responsibility to report them as being here illegally as it is a federal crime. To not do so could be construed as aiding and abetting criminals and you could be liable for federal prosecution. Just sayin'.....

Craig? I have no idea what that little whiner did to deserve banning. The fool is probaly not even banned -- he probably is just hitting the wrong URL. It's not like he was the shapest knife in the drawer. If he is banned then except for whining and complaining like a little girl and asking for anyone who disagrees with him/her to be banned then I don't think he said too much that would warrant (Ron, ooops... I said warrant. Run!) banning. It's not like he posted any opinions or valid points. Let him go over to SJ - I'll miss that fool like I'd miss a herpes blister.

James Norton

Private Eye - you couldn't be more wrong - The Somerville News has been in existence since 1969 - my father bought the paper so it could continue on and this city could once again have a local paper that would have made the Dole family proud (the Dole's owned the Journal when it was a good local paper with local interests, not the ad-driven, non-locally owned paper it is now). Because we own a real estate company that happens to advertise in our own paper isn't a crime you jackass - it's called smart business. I'll get to the personal opinions and their origin in a minute when I address Ron. For now, suffice it to say that you have no idea what you're talking about by saying Imux is closely associated with our newspaper either - because he/she certainly isn't. I have no idea who that person is.

Craig - in all fairness, I don't remember Imux or anyone else posting anything which might go against the grain of my self-imposed rules on this weblog from day one, and, while I don't recollect anything you did personally to be banned, I would have to assume you did something out of the ordinary - because contrary to popular belief, I have no problem with constructive criticism. If it's a personal shot just to be a personal shot and not constructive, then it is my weblog - you're welcome to either pay my bills weekly or piss off. I don't need to explain anymore, honestly.

Ron - the best for last. This doesn't just go out to Ron, but to everyone who still clings onto the idea that this paper is driven by one person, one belief or one set of ideological ideals. Our newspaper is very clearly divided from NEWS stories, which are 1000% unbiased, and commentary, which is 1000% biased. It is so hard to believe that a local, personally owned newspaper can actually report news without being biased in the reporting, while still hold some opinions about what happens in and around the city we have lived all our lives? Are you all seriously mental or what?

Everyone else - let me fill you all in on the composition of this newspaper, so you can finally get a grip and stop taking wild shots at us (again, not that we don't like criticism, we do, when it's constructive). Newstalk is not written solely by my father - it really is a compilation of things heard on the street by at least 12 different people regularly - probably closer to 30 all totalled. The news stories in the paper are compiled by reporters and the editorial staff and are not biased in any way shape or manner, period. The View From Prospect Hill is the direct view of this newspaper - not just one person - but a cross-section of the editorial staff and the publishers - and had been wildly liberal one week while being very conservative the next week - depending on how everyone associated with the newspaper agrees on any given subject. Finally, the commentary - which ranges from my bi-polar rants on anything from eBay to drug use to Mayor Curtatone's view on a subject to Bill Shelton's view on a subject and we will be having some new guest commentaries soon enough.

Not for nothing, but whatever moron thinks that this paper is ultra conservative really needs to change medications - my father was an original corporator for CAAS, SCEOC and SUN in the 70's - all way more progressive in their time than anything seen today - so he and I and the other members of the publishing group and editorial staff are more liberal than you might think. Difference is, we take EACH ISSUE and talk about it and come up with some kind of opinion and put it in the right spot in the newspaper, period.

Now I have work to do, and I don't have time to police this weblog every bloody minute of every bloody day - so for all those thinking that there's an Oliver Stone-ish conspiracy of us trying to subvert the local community with our real estate, political friends and personal views on here and in print - you people really REALLY need to get a life. If you want to call me out on anything you read here, then do it without throwing a personal shot into me or this paper, because I don't have to take it - and unless you are personally paying the bills of this newspaper, then either do it with some respect, or at least have the balls to email me directly or come see me in my office - anytime.

Ok - thats enough ranting for today.

JN

The Mole

Ok, Wake Up Mole; at least we get what was really happening with our tax dollars. Whether it is in Moultonboro or in Burlington, at least three DPW workers are getting DOUBLE TIME for a show in another town having nothing to do with us. Also, I am sure these vehicles are not Hybrids so there goes the gas at DPW too.

The Mole

Imux

JN, I just wanted to make sure you ran the expenses for my reimbursements for the week already? I want to grab a few beers over at PJ Ryans and could use the cash. :>)

In all honesty, JN, why did you bother straightening these nutjobs out? If someone can't figure out that this paper is left - just not FAR ULTRA WINGNUT LEFT - then there is no hope for them. I was hoping that they kept their tinfoil hats all winter -- get those hats frozen right on.

Hey libaloons, do any of you read the articles before you post or just fly off the handle first? A dead giveaway that this paper is left was the immigration article which was sympathetic to the illegal immigrants. I didn't like the article, but I know this paper leans left... it's a local paper and sadly most people here are a bit liberal.

Beep... Beep.... you guys getting any signals from Cheney's limo yet?

Ron Newman

Purple, green, and blue, JN? Ohh, my eyes....

Go Figure

Ron,

The colors are really quite garish.

Mole Fan

Hey Mole, you hear "J"ed "C"lampett just struck oil on Walnut Street ? Whats a politician up for re-election to do ??

James Norton

Funny how when I decide to go off half-cocked on you nitwits you only seem to want to then comment on the damned colors. Okay here's another news flash - I'm color blind - so the blues and the purples kind of look the same to me...is this any better?

JN

Ron Newman

It's better than an hour ago, but you'd do well to lose the green.

Go Figure

Much better James!

James Norton

Okay - so is this any better? I was hoping for blue on the left and gray everywhere else - look any better now?

JN

Somerspeak

James I'm not trying to be cute, but what was wrong with the old set up?

Ron Newman

Was wondering that, too. I had gotten used to the old layout, despite its IKEA-like colors.

Imux

JN, change the grey area to white and you have a winner.
