YES

Any thing you want Joey cakes if Clean Genie tells me to just slip it in as his is old and hurts but yours is still new right.

Fool on the Hill

Jack Connolly says, 'I'm not a rubber stamp. I opposed the condo conversion ordinance.'

Bill Roche says, 'I'm not a rubber stamp. I opposed the condo conversion ordinance and the City of Hope resolve.'

Subtle reporting, George, but you make the point nicely. I realize that your time is limited, but it would be nice to have all the rubber stamps on the record explaining why they are not rubber stamps.

Somerspeak

Fool,

Not gonna happen. Not as long as Curtakoty runs the Somerville News.

Say

Tom Tom bends and looks for the soap please god let this time pay the bill? But Tom Tom it will never be paid.

Fool on the Hill

Say,

While I think that your choice of metaphors is unfortunate, your meaning is accurate. Tom "serves" for one of the worst possible reasons--he needs the money.

I have heard from several of his key supporters that he promised that the 2005 election would be his last race. He just wanted to prove that he was neither guilty of, nor initmidated by the juvenile sodomy charge.

It will be interesting to see if they stick by him when he betrays his promise to them this year.

William Hurst

Hmmm, Rebekah "What color is the sky in my world" Gewirtz says "the board is not independent enough". Makes me wonder when the last time she had an independent thought (or any for that matter). Bill "I lost to Pat" White changed his colors and now votes for the progressive democrats. Wonder if he would still be Republican if the President had a higher approval rating and Healey was Governor of this state. Now there is a true coward and someone who is afraid to stand up for his convictions. He only cares about being elected. The last comments about another alderman are totally out of line. Grow up people.

HL Menken

Mr. Hurst,

You question whether Ms. Gewirtz has any thought at all.

You call Mr. White a coward.

Then you admonish us to grow up.

Is this sarcasm?

Ward5Born

My alderman is not a rubber stamp. He just has a little trouble figuring out how to use it.

William Hurst

HL,
She has done nothing for the people of ward 6, her ideas are right up there (in the clouds) and our other alderman changed stripes to save his job as a do nothing politician. What I am saying "grow up" about is the reference to a sexual impropriety which never happened. This is not what this forum is about. Or could it be that you believe this type of accusation (and or slander) is proper but calling someone an airhead is not?

Jeff Darren

I'm not much of a Martinez fan, BUT this picture is pathetic in his depiction of the lack of diversity in Somerville "politics". What I see here is a bunch of overweight white bullies with red faces due to excessive alcohol consumption. And yes, TWO white women kinda hidden on the right side (by their posture, one wonders is they are actually part of the board or just support staff). Pretty disgusting.

Stupid is as stupid does....

What a stupid, rascist, derogatory comment you just made. You might as well have called them "overweight white IRISH bullies with red faces due to excessive alcohol consumption". It was completely out of line. Funny, this is OK, but during the campaign anyone who criticized Martinez legitimately (without resorting to physical, ethnic, or 'life-style' comments) was called a rascist!

Dumb & Dumber

It takes all kinds of rubber stamps to get through life. You have your self-inking, auto-stamp, digital reproductions, voice recognition, self-adhesive and long lasting indelible rainbow selection. Isn’t long lasting the same as indelible? Yeah it is, but I am just trying to drive home a point.

The bad Alderman from Ward 5, Sean O’Donovan and the very Dis-Honor, Dah Mayor, has somehow come up with this plan to renovate Trum Field as we speak. Now mind you, the Trum Field house and the Broadway side of the park certainly does need work made to it, but Golly Gee dumb asses, why do it now when you have High School Sports, Men’s Recreation Softball, Little League, Babe Ruth, Legion Baseball, Over 30, Recreation for the kids during the summer and of course, Dah Mayor’s favorite, the Fireworks in 4 weeks. Why now smart fathers of our City?

You could have started the end of the summer when most of these activities have ended and kids are back to school. You chose now to do this. Could it be a push to get some demolition done buy one of your favorites guys? Could it be that you need to have construction going on in this City 24/7 so the flow never ends? Could it be Alderman O’Donovan needs to flex some muscle for his next election? Don’t worry Sean, “What was done in Las Vegas gets told here on the Blog”.

We can only surmise as to why, why, why. You don’t want us to do that now do you?

Jeff Darren

Nah, don't bother projecting your feelings onto others. And, ouch, I feel the pain of the persecuted white male majority. It's a real shame the good old boys are being challenged left and right these days, isn't it? Finally, the fact you consistently misspell a simple word such as "racist" says something as well.

>>>>

Ward 3 Voter

Hey hey Somerville News. Don't forget we have alderwomen also and school committee women

'racist'

So I guess 'racist' (how do you like them apples, barney?) slurs are OK against the 'white male majority'? That's interesting, but good to know! Thanks for the info.

TALKING TO ME

HL

Mr. Hurst,

I went away for the weekend, so I'm just now reading your response.

I don't believe that Fool on the Hill, or virtually anyone else, believes the sodomy charges against Tom Taylor that the DA's office investigated in 2004-2005. As I read the Fool's post, s/he was saying that Tom had told members of his campaign committee that he was only running that year as a statement that he was undaunted by those charges, and that he promised that it they supported him, he would not run thereafter.

I've heard the same thing from one of those committee members. I appreciate your repudiation of any effort to slander someone based on falsehoods, but I don't believe that the Fool was doing that.

unionsquareboy

isn't it interesting how joey cakes has basically become the thug that capuano was even though he was supposed to be the champion of the peope against capuano cronyism? it's all pretty discouraging.

Yeah he's a Champ all right

Come on Unionsquareboy......pay attention.

Joey made his political career during the 90s by trashing every single thing that Capuano did. If Mike was for it he was against it.....but it never had anything to do with being a champion for anything other than Joe himself. It still doesn't.

Dis Senter

Of course, Somerville residents demand to know more about those sodomy charges.

William Hurst

HL,
Perhaps I misread his/her comments (don't believe I did but it is possible) Could be my fault, but how do we end up going from rubber stamp to sodomy charges? Unbelievable.

The Mole

Once again the "Rubber Stamp" came down on an appointment by the BOA. It is business as usual as the BOA confirmed the newly appointed Highway Superintendent from the MWRA, S.Mac.

When the ex-Superintendent of Highway/Lights & Lines, JV, accepted this position, this same BOA had to go to the State to combine the two positions. Home rule pettion is what they needed to do. JV had a master electrician’s license and he was the last to hold one. When Buckely was there, he certainly didn’t have one. This position deals a lot with Nstar, Fire Alarm, and every residential property in the City that needed electrical permits. NStar alone needs to be handled on a large scale. What does this new person have to do that? NOTHING! Yes the do have inspectors which have conformed to state requirements, but the top dog should also be licensed. S.Mac. is not.

How did the Committee on Appointments OK this candidate? What are his credentials? Are these the questions one should ask to see if they are qualified for the job rather than being a friend of a friend from the MWRA?

This is why the Rubber Stamp is getting worn out. When the City falls into a crises with electrical problems, who do we call? The newly appointed ex-MWRA appointee is that who will respond?

JV, were the hell are you?

The Mole

Wake up Mole

Mole - Why should the "top dog" be licensed. If he manages well enough isn't that ok? Not every supervisor has all the skills of his employees. An operations chief of a company in fact manages every department but doesn't hold the degrees or the knowledge to do all those jobs. If your argument is correct then the DPW Director of Operations should be able to do and have the knowledge of every job at the DPW. That has NEVER been the case. The DPW Commissioner has NEVER held a cdl. you are nothing but a lying, jealous, sniveling fool who continues to make thinks up to stir trouble.

Born Here

so, the person that deals with City electrical issues doesn't need to know the field ?? I'm sure NStar might use some technical terms....no ?

Vince Santarpio

Mole,
I saw the posting for the Superintendent of Highway job on the Somerville website earlier today. I may have it wrong so correct me if I do. The posting says the last day to apply was June 2 and your post (from June 2) seems to say that that the position has already been filled. Is that true? Did they wait until the deadline had passed? If not, why?

The Mole

The new appointee has already started at the DPW. If Wake Up thinks it isn't important or the required licenses are not needed, just good management, how the hell can you manage when you have no knowledge of the code requirements? How the hell can one protect the interest of the City, double poles, transformers, underground utility work and the rest, when they do not know a thing about the business?

The Mole

go get 'em Mole !! By the way, where is the famous Dr. Mrs. McCarthy? Let hope our Mayoral canidate is OK. Heaven forbid we see her at Doherty's 2-4 and 7-9 !!

Vince Santarpio

Mole,
So they didn't even wait for their own post to close before the person started there? Smells like a bag job if ever there was one.

I don't care if he's Thomas Edison, they should have at least waited until the end of their own job posting before squeezing him in.

The Mole

Vince, at the BOA meeting of May 10th, Item 59 under Mayor's request it reads:

"Requesting the appointment of Steven MacEachern as Superintendent of Highway and Lights & Lines."

May 10th was the request so for the job posting to be out to June 2nd, I would venture a guess it was another bag job all around.

Rubber Stamping from this BOA will continue without the ink getting dry.

Vince,
welcome to Somerville.

Dr. Mrs. McCarthy

Born Here and Free,

Where the hell have you been. Funerals are so damn expensive these days, I'm lucky if I can afford a quick drive through viewing at McDonalds at the Twin Plaza off McGrath. It's more like 4-8, a quick blessing and then a planting at Oak Grove!

The campaign trail is taxing. Curtakoty is out in full force with the fleeceing of Cambriville. Who the hell are these nitwits contributing to Joe's campaign when he won't even have a viable opponent. That's like asking people to contribute to a fund dedicated to the eradication of polio! As I hear it, our Italian Stallion is worried about me. His pollsters are telling him that the seniors have had enough of his fast talking and are looking for someone their own age(like moi!)to represent their interests. And all the youngsters???? Their into retro these days. What's old is new again. Like moi! It's looking good people. The "Cambriville Rockin Chair" crowd rules!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

See you all real soon,

Imagine no viable opponent this year for the Mayor. He can slide and glide for the nest 2 1/2 years.

One asks why then the $250 per bacon strip at his next pocket change breakfast in a few weeks at the Century Bank headquarters on Mystic Ave, Medford? Well, one reason probably is to pay back his personal loans he lent himself when he was a failing Attorney back in Union Square. He could hardly pay his rent back then. But then again, if he was a failing Attorney how could he have lent himself the cash? That is the million dollar question.

The second reason to have a breakfast where fools donate to this guy is to double number one reason.

I know the Good Dr. Mrs. McCarthy is getting her white shrouded suit ready for this one. She wants to take notes regarding the "How to Raise Cash, 101" seminar so she can try the same thing when she kicks her campaign off at the fireworks. Those basket donations at LSOP are not as hefty as those from developers, attorneys, LLC’s and the rest.

Mayor Dr. Mrs. McCarthy, welcome back ole girl. Put me down for a dozen bumper stickers and a roof rack. You'll definately carry the "yard" vote. Maybe the Somerville News will print up some stickers for the campaign??

There is a "Rubber Stamp" fundraiser being sponsered by the Mayor that all can afford. Just bring your $20 contribution to the event and you will receive an authentic, self-inking, heavy duty, City Sealed rubber stamp in the color of your choice.

Keep an eye open for your invitation in the mail for time and place.

The Mole

The Mole

Come One Come ALL, the cheapest fundraiser for all to attend. Holiday Inn, June 13th, 7 PM. For an entry fee of only $20 you can see the Rubber Stampers in person with all their Glory.

There will be a limited amount of autographs given by the BOA. Collect all 11 City Fathers Rubber Stamp Signatures for your collection.

The Mole

McGruff

Nice, a few aldermen can crawl home from there!

Kiss of Death

I think the question being posed has an obvious answer when two simple issues are addressed. Do you have a son, daughter, spouse, or significant other who accepts a position in the administration?... and or have you gone hat in hand and asked the Mayor to get you elected?... answer yeah to either and it is a given you have in fact given up your independence. The fact is a majority of the BOA fall into the category.

One need only ask one question: when was the last time any Alderman had an original idea of substance that went anywhere? Its been a long time since the BOA was composed of people like Joe Mackey, Mike Capuano, and others who stood for something and got things moving in the right direction. This BOA shall be remembered and remain one of the most shallow and under-achieving in the City's history. Which unfortunately for most of them is just fine as long as they can get their monthly check.

Born Here

and a nice inflated monthly check at that. Do we really need Aldermen-at-Large anyway ? Look, there is a savings for the people !

My opinion

The aldermen are paid more for a part-time job than some full time city and school department employees!

The Mole

These Rubber Stamps are getting way out of hand. First the Mayor sends out a “Nation Wide Search” for the best candidates available. He has the interview with the top dog, or is it, the highest spender from within a family tree.

Next, he presents this candidate at one of the BOS meetings. This then goes into the Conformation of Appointments committee, where it is looked at with no scrutiny what so ever. It is a S.O.P. For those that need to know what S.O.P. means, not you baby; Dr. Mrs. McCarthy, that means Standard Operating Procedure”.

The Committee on Appointments sends their findings back to the BOA meeting with their recommendations. Now when have you EVER seen then not advocate an appointment by this Mayor?

NEVER!!!

Thus, the title of “Rubber Stamps”. So please, come to the next cheap seat Mayors’ fundraiser next week at the Holiday Inn and be the tenth on your block to get an authentic BOA signature, with ineradicable ink, so you can say at the next block party, “Hey, look whose rubber stamp I have? Who do you have?

The Mole

Fool on the Hill

I remember a time when aldermen conducted vigorous and thoughtful debates. They SERVED for $1,500 per year, and there were 20+ competitors for a given seat.
I remember Billy Joyce, who chewed out the mayor at almost every Board of Aldermen meeting. Then, he would get reelected by the highest margin of any ward alderman.

Now they raise their trembling hands to the mayor to beg for their paltry little rewards. To have a real debate, they would have to understand the issues. They would have to dig into city finances and operations to find out what is really going on. But it's easier to just do what they are told and pocket their pay.

It's a mercy that Joe signals before he turns. Otherwise, a majority on the Board would have broken necks.

Ole Timer

The Ole Days are gone and the new era is here. Although one could say the ole days are still hanging above us.

Back in the middle 70's when VP and SK were running Assembly Square, there was plenty of corruption. Today, Assembly Square is back in the picture and it is rumored, with SK in the forefront, VP is not far behind.

$$$

When you pay politicians too much, you don't get better candidates. You only get candidates who are there for the money. Worst case scenario......

The Mole

I am not sure JN if I am breaking any of your rules but if I am, sorry about that and you will do what you need to do.

As indicated in the Farm League paper today, Page 3, Manboobs states, “Although a job posting on the city’s Web site said the position would be open until June, MacEachern was hired in May because of how important the job is”. Manboobs said, “MAcEachern supervised a staff of 15 at MWRA responsible for cleaning, routine maintenance, landscaping, snow removal and street weeping at various state-owned facilities. MacEchern has also run his own snowplow, yard, car cleaning and tank removal company, holds a Class B commercial driver’s license and is a certified volunteer firefighter.”

OK, what electrical licenses does he hold to deal with Fire Alarm issues, Utility company laying conduit and pulling wires, radio issues and the other 1,000 issues a master electrician, as JV ex-Superintendent held? With the constant BOA orders dealing with double poles which has plagued this City they will have to remember they were the ones that Rubber Stamped this individual with the qualifications of Highway/Lights & Lines Superintendent and should not complain to anyone about the job not getting done.

No more BOA orders will you see coming out regarding anything to do with Utility companies not performing to City ordinances from this step forward. The City has the top dog in place now because he is the best qualified candidate.

The Mole

somerville old timer

Did you notice that McEachern was given the new job long before the job posting expired? This is a case of who you know, not what you know.

morons please

Listen morons - the position is an APPOINTED position. Since I can safely assume that you don't know what that means - it means the Mayor can put ANYONE he wants in the position with BOA approval. Forget about the Lights and Lines, Charlie. It is a manager position. However, the REAL issue is that your buddy the foreman VD doesn't have the appropriate licences. I suppose that is not a problem in your eyes

ward 5

you have to be kidding, we have to put up with the same thime agian and agian, for 2 more years. anyone out there want to run?

The Mole

Moron please, stop being the TOP Moron;

We know the position is appointed by the Mayor. That is not the problem. The quandary being an un-qualified person placed in that position and Rubber Stamped by the BOA. They use this rubber stamp like water flows from the heights of Niagara Falls.

You must have been the first person on your floor to get the $20 in for that official autograph at the cheap seat fundraiser at Holiday Inn next week. Frame those autographs and hang them on the wall in your office.

PS.... Skipper, I wish you the best on your upcoming surgery. Stay well and heal fast. It will be a long and hard recovery. If anyone can do it, you can.
