Dr. Mrs. McCarthy

George,

Not that I disbeleive Steve and Edie Lawerence(aka Martinez and Paolella) but maybe you should contact his honor the Congressman for a direct quote just so there is no confusion................

Gone Fishing,

Dr. Mrs."WideMouth Bass" McCarthy

smartgrowthfan

What motivation does Larry Payola and all these other Melrose View task force frauds have to sink any reasonable smart growth development at Assembly Square? If you attended the Planning Board hearing, you would have heard about the "mixed use" plan for the site and transit-oriented development. There was no talk about making the whole plan a "strip mall" or "regional shopping center." While the edge uses of the plan are well-known, they will lead to the type of development that would support a T stop. Every City use produces traffic, even parks and open space - how else are people going to get there - stilts, unicycles and pogo sticks? One of the alderman requested that Congressman Mike himself attend the next meeting. He will surely tell the board that he was not knocking Federal Realty's plan, he likely doesn't know what they have proposed.

Generally, these outside-funded Melrose/ Cambridge View task farce folks are seeking to prevent any sane developer from coming to Somerville to deal with their orchestrated Chicken Little tactics and their calculated revving up of all these deodorant-free Dennis Hopper wannabees straight out of Central Casting and their non-Somerville living groupees. Their leaders have undisclosed motives, perhaps economic, for not wanting any development to occur at Assembly Square. I, for one, am no longer buying their act. Show us who is funding MTF! Somerville should determine the future of Somerville.

Vito

Yes Somerville should determine the future of Somerville, I agree. But by Somerville I mean the people who actually "Own" homes and "Have" kids here, not the transpants in Davis Square who have been here for a year run jack up the rent, run for office, take over the voice in politics my children should have and leave when it best suits their career. Its like redevelopment in a city is a virus, once it happens it attracts more and more viruses that take over your city and culture till its all gone. I say we deal with what we have now, maybe invest in our schools, invest in the roads, help local business, make sure that those who grew up in Somerville have the oppurtunity to stay in Somerville. We need to focus our resources less on urban planning and more on the people of this city, they are the future prosperity, not the techies with $500,000 dollar condos and ambitious kids who use Somerville for office.

all done

vito its all in the family !just look at the roach family from ward one! who works for the city ? and there are more to come at dpw?

Surprised

I didn't even know Martinez could speak english. Congratulations Marty!!! Are you still dating men???????????

Yorktown Street

For your information, Marty Martinez' first language is English. I have no idea whether or not he's dating, but Surprised, maybe you should call him up. You might get lucky.

peter

Cool, bring that $25 million over to the Green Line in Union Square project!

Fluffernater

Uh oh, I saw Fluff at the market, better call the gestapo in. FLUFF kills, in fact its worse then crack. Jesus christ, have our politicians lost all touch with reality. Thats it I never thought I would say this but I am moving to New Hampshire, this city is a circus, a damn shame to. We have a gang problem in schools and everyones liberal savior Jarett Barrios is crusading againts fluff. Heres a word of advice, who do you think live in your district. The makers of fluff, we we next pass a resolution to arrest them by the nutrition police because the Cambridge yuppies are to busy with themselves to parent their kids. Why are we talking about Assembly square when they seel Fluff at Stop and Shop. Better tear it down and put another Whole Foods up so we poor folks can lose wight by starving to death since we can not afford the organic food.

heyvito!

Vito says
"We need to focus our resources less on urban planning and more on the people of this city, they are the future prosperity, not the techies with $500,000 dollar condos and ambitious kids who use Somerville for office."

It's funny, in an odd not a humorous way, how the anit-"New People" sentiment rears its head on this site. Vito, you're saying people who can afford a half a million dollar condo aren't the future of this city? You're saying "ambitious kids" aren't the future of this city? (BTW - How are these children even ellegible to run for office? Isn't there an age requirement?) You also say we should "make sure that those who grew up in Somerville have the oppurtunity to stay in Somerville". Well why should my hard earned tax dollar go for that? Beside, damn near everyone I know who was born in Somerville lives in a property that's been in the family for at least decades and in some cases generations. So my tax dollar should prop up someone who inherited or will inherit hundreds of thousands of dollars in real estate? Suffice to say I won't be voting Vito should you run for Mayor.

The fluffenator terminator

Hey fluffenator Baby,

Think about it!

Can you imagine how much of our tax dollars are spent subsidizing the medical bills of poor overly obese people. Lets not feed them any more fluff and wonder white bread if we are going to pay theeir medical bills. Our emergency rooms are overfilled and our hospitals are clogged with diabetes and countless other medical disorders related to the diets of these folks. My company and I pay a lot for our medical insurance. I go to the gym or run when I can and I try to eat right so as not to suffer or burden my family with medical or money problems. My insurance is high because these poor saps eat at KFC everyday and run to the hospital 6 times a year.

From now on, you can only get health food with food stamps no more trash! And the FEMA checks can't be used for alcohol or sex change operations.

No, hey heyvito!

the anti-"New People" sentiment rears its head on this site."

I can gaurantee you that heyvito is not a new person. He does not understand what is going on at all and is just trying to stirr up trouble.

The anti "New people" sentiment does not really come from the poor people who spew it out as you say. The root cuase of it is the trouble makers, rogue business owners and old leaders of this community. They teach this BS in the hopes of keeping their comfortable positions, relationships and shady affairs active for as long as they can. They know that once the city cleans up and starts to do things correctly that they will lose the ability to park all of their used car inventory on the community streets and sidewalks. They won't be able to treat their neighbors like cattle in order to run a dive bar with loud rock music and pollution spewing into our neighborhoods. They wont be able to take advantqge of imigrants at foss park or rent their apartments to college kids while running their power tools at 11:30 at night. So what they do is tell all their minions "new people are Bad" "the sky is falling". When the opposite is true. The new people care more about other people. Their only drawback sometimes is they push issues that are meant for state and national governments and they don't understand the old Somerville like they should.

no Hey heyvito

JN, I messed up your log here. could you please delete the repeat post above and this one too.

Thanks!

Charlie on the MTA

oh, HELLO NEWMAN....
I guess my posts a few weeks ago were not so uninformed !! The MBTA does not want a T stop in Assy Sq., and they certainly dont have the cash to put in. Dream on, all it will do is give the homeless and boozebags an easier way to get from Davis to Kmart.

Grammar Queen

Vito writes, "Somerville should determine the future of Somerville, I agree. But by Somerville I mean the people who actually "Own" homes and "Have" kids here"

Do you really mean that only Somerville homeowners with kids are the only people who should have a say? Does anyone know what percentage that small special interest group is of the entire population of Somerville? Like we used to say back in the day, What are you, mental?

Yorktown Street

According to Census 2000, "Family households with own children under 18 years" were a whopping 18.8% of Somerville residents.

Yorktown Street

P.S. And that counts renters!

Martin Edin

yes, are'nt renters like 70%. I think a legitimate concern is heard here in that a lot of renters are transient. college kids that are going to move away don't have the same care for a long term vision of Somerville. The kids that do vote will care more about national issues and maybe state issues. They more likely to vote for rent controll without understanding the long term affects. You can'nt really keep them from voting but having a longer stronger vision for somerville and sharing it with the leaders of these communties and the kids in Davis square will go a long way to help get people on your side.
