St. Anthony school closes
By George P. Hassett
A 48 year old Somerville Catholic school will close at the end of this school year, said an Archdiocese spokesman this weekend.
A serious decline in enrollment, continued financial deficits and demographic changes in the immediate area of St. Anthony Parish and School have made it impossible for the school to remain operating, said Terry Donilon in a press release.
Donilon said each St. Anthony student will be assisted in finding another Catholic school next year.
St. Anthony School opened its doors in September, 1958 built by the first pastor and founder of St. Anthony Parish, Rev. Nazareno Properzi. It was staffed by the Sisters of Notre Dame and welcomed children of all races, colors, and creeds, he said.
This school will be sadly missed by many of us who's children attended and graduated from here. Most of us parents spent a good part of our busy day's and nights picking up, dropping off our kids here along with attending many meetings and wonderful events for many years. The school and it's staff have been a big part of many people's lives. Fond memories, strong discipline, excellent teachers and a great education. Thank You Saint Anthony's from the Tauro Family!

We are all so sad to hear of the closing of St. Anthony's School. Many memories will be cherished and remembered.
It was a great school and it will be greatly missed.
From the school shows, Bingo, Country Store, Women's Guild, After school programs you name it you could not have been done without the support from the parents, Teachers and principles.
Good luck to all in the future!
