spanking the monkey

Seems like the News has lost its appetite for noting the actions of Curtatone, Foster, Koty, Santangelo, et al.

I'm curious what pressure was brought to bear to silence this forum?

Rumor has it Billy Tauro may lose his towing gig.

What gives?

James Norton

What paper are you reading, or do you need to have it translated into Ubbi Dubbi for you?

Pressure? We feel ZERO pressure from anyone 'round these parts, my precious reader. Read the paper again, then peruse the articles online and the comments therein.

Nothing has changed in our operations - listen, just because this city isn't jam-packed with people who go out of their way to get themselves in the paper, doesn't mean it becomes fabrication time, does it?

Oh sure, there's the occassional dipshit who just can't help him or herself - (for hypothetic example) - misusing authority, hanging out at the Dante Club on city time, working on condo conversion jobs while on city time, relatives with no-show jobs - we all know the type. But that doesn't mean they're in the paper or on the weblog on a daily basis. Come on now, we'd be having too much fun then.

So here we are - presenting the news, peppering the masses with some personal opinion through creative and insightful writing in the commentaries and tossing a few grenades in the rumor column (Newstalk). There's no conspiracy, there's no agenda. How many times do we have to say it before it sinks in?

Everyone makes mistakes along the way, nobody is perfect, but at the end of the day, we try our hardest to get it done right and we do it without sitting by the answering machine and editing supposed comments to put in our paper just to keep our readers and "create" some excitement about ourselves.

The new motto of The Somerville News is: "Local, unbiased news reporting, the way it should be" - and that's just how we like it. If you think we have changed or we are going to change because of ANY pressure from anyone, well then, no offense, but you must not be a native Somervillian - because that's not how we do it around here.

As far as Billy Tauro losing the towing gig - I don't like to speak for Billy, or his family, but I have to laugh at the people who like to stir that pot and pull the pin on that dud grenade every couple of months. How does one lose a contract they've bid on? And is there a mystery tow company waiting in the wings with a similarly-sized lot of land that's permitted to store vehicles and can beat their bid for services that I am unaware of? I don't think so.

It's nice to stir the pot, but at least pick something plausible, for God's sake.

i don't believe JN is giving the whole story with regard to Senor Tauro. if you want more info, you'll have to know someone on the inside, but i also have heard that something is afoot....

Want To Know
