Cambridge Rindge and Latin High School has named John Shea as head varsity football coach, effective immediately.
As head football coach at Middleboro High School from 2008-2010, Shea led the team to the League Championship in 2008. Previously he served as assistant football coach at Pope John High School, and at Cambridge Rindge and Latin High School for the 2003-2004 season.
“We are enthusiastic that John Shea will lead the varsity football program,” said athletic director Maryann Cappello. “John brings the ability to motivate our student-athletes to be successful. He is dedicated to developing a quality program that stresses academics first, while helping each team member fully develop their athletic skills. With his past experience at CRLS, his winning record, and his excellent organizational skills honed at Middleboro High, he was our top candidate.”
Among his goals, Shea plans to implement an offseason workout program, create versatile offensive and defensive schemes, and develop a link between the CRLS football program and Cambridge Pop Warner League. “It is critical to create a connection between high school and youth programs,” he states. “In Middleboro we organized a youth football camp, which was crucial to building the future of that program. I look forward to implementing a similar program in Cambridge.”
Shea is in the process of hiring his football coaches for the 2011 season. The positions have been posted on the Cambridge Public Schools website for anyone interested.
