5th Consecutive Secret Santa for Seniors Gift Drive a Record-Breaking Success!
January 5, 2012 – The Cambridge Police Department, in collaboration with other community donors, assembled and distributed gift bags full of holiday treats and treasures to senior citizens in Cambridge for the fifth year in a row.
Each year, Cambridge Police rely on generous donations from Cambridge businesses, community members, and police officers to assist in providing this service. The goal of this program is to brighten the holidays for senior citizens feeling lonely on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day by providing them with a small gift that lets them know they are not forgotten.
Last year, the program was extremely successful, distributing gift bags full of hats, gloves, socks, and other holiday treats to nearly 300 senior citizens in Cambridge. This year, an outpouring of generosity allowed Cambridge Police to deliver over 400 gift bags to grateful seniors.
Holly Bernier, Neighborhood Coordinator for the Cambridge Police Department, said of this year’s program, “I would like to thank all who contributed to Secret Santa for Seniors, especially all of the community members, police officers, and their families who volunteered their time to help deliver gift bags on Christmas Eve. This program would not be possible without the CambridgeSide Galleria Mall, Wholefoods Market, Vineyard Church, East Cambridge Savings Bank, Cambridge Housing Authority, Cambridge Police Multi-Cultural Police Officers Association, Cambridge Police Superior Officers Association, Cambridge Police Patrol Officers Association, MIT employees, Mt. Auburn Hospital employees, and City of Cambridge Employees. All of these groups gave a monetary donation and/or contributed a great deal of donated items, and their support of this program is greatly appreciated.”
