Dozens of fire fighters from both Somerville and Cambridge fire Departments were called to the scene to rescue occupants of a motor vehicle that was run over by a multi-ton cement truck early Tuesday morning.
The rescue was actually a simulation accident that took place on Medford Street in Somerville behind the Holman's Building in Somerville.

Somerville Police have arrested a 22 year old Somerville man in connection with several recent indecent assaults on women in Somerville and Medford. Over the past two months, Somerville Police, working together with Cambridge, Medford, Transit and Tufts University Police and the FBI Violent Crimes Task Force, have arrested Alfredo Romero Posada after a two month long investigation of area assaults on women. A special task force was formed to conduct this investigation since mid September. The Task Force utilized surveillance teams, Decoy Officers and Saturated Patrols in the Davis Square and Porter Square neighborhoods. Posada was observed in the Davis Square area on October 29th by officers assigned to this task force. Surveillance officers were able to stop and identify him as a potential suspect as he was approaching a woman walking alone.

The City of Cambridge’s commitment to reducing its carbon footprint is dramatically lowering energy use and is now also benefiting students at Cambridge Rindge and Latin School (CRLS). Several energy-saving improvements, installed with technical support and financial incentives from NSTAR, are combining to lower CRLS’s annual energy use by more than 1.3 million kilowatt-hours of electricity and nearly 44,000 therms of natural gas. We anticipate the energy savings will also lower the school’s utility bills by over $335,000 a year.

In observance of the Veterans’ Day Holiday on Friday, Nov. 11, City offices will be closed and there will be no trash/ recycling pickup or street cleaning in Cambridge. Trash/ recycling daily pickup routes will be one day behind for the remainder of the week. The odd side E-district was posted and cleaned in advance of the holiday.
