Cambridge Police Officers Prepare Thanksgiving Meal for Seniors

To give thanks this year, several Cambridge Police Officers and teens from the Moore Youth Center cooked a pre-Thanksgiving dinner for members of the community on Tuesday, November 22nd.

Somerville and Cambridge Fire Departments saving lives

Dozens of fire fighters from both Somerville and Cambridge fire Departments were called to the scene to rescue  occupants of a motor vehicle that was run over by a multi-ton cement truck early Tuesday morning.

The rescue was actually  a simulation accident that took place on Medford Street in Somerville behind the Holman's Building in Somerville.

Police Make Arrest in Indecent Assault and Battery Investigation

Somerville Police have arrested a 22 year old Somerville man in connection with several recent indecent assaults on women in Somerville and Medford.  Over the past two months, Somerville Police, working together with Cambridge, Medford, Transit and Tufts University Police and the FBI Violent Crimes Task Force, have arrested Alfredo Romero Posada after a two month long investigation of area assaults on women.  A special task force was formed to conduct this investigation since mid September.  The Task Force utilized surveillance teams, Decoy Officers and Saturated Patrols in the Davis Square and Porter Square neighborhoods.  Posada was observed in the Davis Square area on October 29^th by officers assigned to this task force.  Surveillance officers were able to stop and identify him as a potential suspect as he was approaching a woman walking alone. 

CPD Asks Residents & Businesses to Donate to “Secret Santa for Seniors” Gift Drive

The Cambridge Police Department is seeking donations for its annual Secret Santa for Seniors gift drive. Donations will be accepted now through Monday, December 19th and gifts can be dropped off in the first floor Main Lobby of the Robert W. Healy Public Safety Facility located at 125 Sixth Street.

Suspect Arrested in Connection with Indecent Assault in Canal Park in Cambridge

At approximately 3:20AM on 11/11/2011, a female reported being approached from behind by an unknown male in Canal Park near the CambridgeSide Galleria in East Cambridge.

Cambridge presented HeartSafe Community Award

The Metropolitan Boston Emergency Medical Services Council, Inc. has designated the City of Cambridge and Cambridge Fire Department as recipients of the HeartSafe Community Award for 2011.

Cambridge Rindge and Latin School Saves Energy with Help from NSTAR

The City of Cambridge’s commitment to reducing its carbon footprint is dramatically lowering energy use and is now also benefiting students at Cambridge Rindge and Latin School (CRLS).  Several energy-saving improvements, installed with technical support and financial incentives from NSTAR, are combining to lower CRLS’s annual energy use by more than 1.3 million kilowatt-hours of electricity and nearly 44,000 therms of natural gas.  We anticipate the energy savings will also lower the school’s utility bills by over $335,000 a year.

City Offices Closed November 11 for Veterans Day Holiday

In observance of the Veterans’ Day Holiday on Friday, Nov. 11, City offices will be closed and there will be no trash/ recycling pickup or street cleaning in Cambridge.  Trash/ recycling daily pickup routes will be one day behind for the remainder of the week.  The odd side E-district was posted and cleaned in advance of the holiday.

Cambridge Health Alliance Geriatrics Chief Honored for Community Service to Elders

Anne Fabiny, MD, Chief of Geriatrics at Cambridge Health Alliance (CHA), is this year’s recipient of the Nancy P. Kahn Community Service Award from Somerville-Cambridge Elder Services (SCES). SCES Assistant Executive Director Mary Ann Dalton presented Dr. Fabiny with the award at the 12th Annual Serving Seniors Celebration on Wednesday, November 9, at the Somerville City Club.
