
The City of Cambridge will host the 16th Annual Danehy Park Family Day on Saturday, September 24, from 11 a.m. – 4 p.m. Enjoy a fun-filled day of children's amusement rides, arts and crafts, music and roving performers, plus free hot dogs, chips, sodas and T-shirts while supplies last! Check out performances throughout the day at the children's stage. Other special giveaways include colorful kites that appeal to kids of all ages! The rain date is Sunday, Sept. 25.

Cambridge received approximately 180 calls for down trees, limbs and wires as a result of Hurricane Irene which was downgraded to a Tropical Storm by the time it arrived in the local area. City crews have inspected the majority of these locations and responded to all critical sites. Crews were working throughout Sunday to clear streets for emergency access in most locations and worked with NSTAR to respond to down wires.

On August 16th, members of the Cambridge Police Department and representatives from Micro Center in Cambridge awarded laptops to two Cambridge Rindge and Latin School seniors.
Stephanie Rebelo and Melinda Maxwell, both 18, received the laptops after being chosen as the winners of the High School Senior Essay Challenge sponsored by the Cambridge Police Department. The laptops were donated by Micro Center.

Police Detectives observed a male walk past them. One of the detectives immediately recognized the male from a surveillance tape of an armed robbery by handgun from a gas station at Massachusetts Ave and Lansdowne Street in Cambridge that occurred on June 18.

Cambridge Carnival International, http://www.cambridgecarnival.org/, is a colorful and festive celebration rooted in African traditions is preparing for the 19th annual Caribbean and Mardi Gras style festival and parade. The event is held annually the weekend after Labor Day. This year's new date is Saturday, September 10, 2010, 12 noon – 7pm in Kendall Square in Cambridge, Massachusetts with a rain date of Sunday, September 18, 2011.
