Cambridge received approximately 180 calls for down trees, limbs and wires as a result of Hurricane Irene which was downgraded to a Tropical Storm by the time it arrived in the local area. City crews have inspected the majority of these locations and responded to all critical sites. Crews were working throughout Sunday to clear streets for emergency access in most locations and worked with NSTAR to respond to down wires.
Forestry crews will continue to go thru any outstanding issues. Parks crews will also be organized into their various districts and will be driving street to street picking up any significant debris which has been left behind. We anticipate that this work will continue throughout the week.
The collaborative effort made by all City departments helped make the impact of this event much more manageable. For any concerns related to downed trees or other debris, please call the Department of Public Works at 617-349-4800.
