“We’ve been dead for a little while now and we came here to die again,” announced the lead singer of The Yer Moms, Dex MF Ter. The Yer Moms brought wrath and havoc to their last performance downstairs at the Middle East. Along with some non-sequitors that threatened the comfort of audiences, their music is a handy commentary on the Age of Twitter and the disintegration of communication since texting and “blurbs” came along. Their songs are a thunder bolt, brimstone, and a short stick of sage incense. Be careful, it’s so short you might get burned.
The rapid rate of anti-authority outbursts, reminiscent of the Deftones and Rage Against the Machine, fly hard and fast. Guitarist Phil Gelinas and Dave Crespo sift through a succession of insults and rage issuing from MF Ter, who sounds like a Jungle MC. The only difference being that a Jungle MC ideally fills the role of a support group coordinator.
The Yer Moms are satirists, poking fun and showing cheek with aphorisms directed at their army and yours. “I started this band to be political. The second reason was to offend anybody on the planet,” states MF Ter. For a closer look at the band check out their MySpace page (www.myspce.com/theyermoms).
