The Cambridge Police Department is proud to announce the release of its 2010 Annual Crime Report which includes over 100 pages of data and information about crime trends in Cambridge.
“I am pleased to present the Cambridge Police Department’s 2010 Annual Crime Report,” said Cambridge Police Commissioner Robert C. Haas. “For nearly two decades, our detailed annual crime report has provided an easy-to-digest account of crime in Cambridge…It is a must-read for residents who wish to understand crime and victimization, dispel unwarranted fear of crime, and better appreciate the significant role of the public in our partnership to prevent, solve, and reduce crime and disorder and to maintain a sense of safety and community in our city.”
Although Cambridge reported a slight uptick in the crime total in 2010 (1%) after reporting the lowest total in over 40 years in 2009, the total crime index has fallen more than 43% since 1986. From 2001 through 2010, auto theft fell a staggering 68%, total violent crime fell 7%, total property crime fell 20%, and the total amount of crime in Cambridge decreased by 18% in that 10 year period.
