The City of Cambridge, Mass. is proud to announce the availability of the EmFinder’s EmSeeQ® wearable locator system that uses cellular technology to quickly locate individuals who are prone to wandering due to cognitive disorders, such as Alzheimer’s, dementia or autism. The Cambridge Police Department is now one of many progressive public safety organizations across the country—and the first in the state of Massachusetts—to upgrade its search and rescue technology to locate wandering and lost persons with this innovative system.

Although housebreaks were down 13% last year from the 5-year average, as warmer weather during the spring and summer months approaches Cambridge Police typically see an increase in housebreak activity across the city.
The Cambridge Police Department would like to alert residents to this seasonal pattern and ask that residents take all of the proper precautions to help ensure that they or their homes are not victimized.
Housebreaks most commonly occur during the daytime while victims are not home, or while homeowners are away on vacation. Cambridge’s Annual Commemoration of the Holocaust will be held Wednesday, May 4, from 7-9 p.m., at Temple Beth Shalom, 8 Tremont St., Cambridge.
Recalling all who perished during the Holocaust, this year’s program features an evening of music, candle lighting, and remembrance. The guest speaker is Fred Manasse. Manasse was born in Frankfurt, Germany in 1935 and was only three years old when his parents sent him and his brother Gustav into hiding – first to Belgium and later to France, where they were hidden in the city of Vichy until the end of World War II. The rest of his family perished at the Auschwitz concentration camp. Coming to the United States after the war, Manasse became a professor of electrical engineering and physicist. In retirement Manasse became a sculptor and creates works evoking the loss of family and his “personal diaspora.”

The Cambridge Police Department Electronic Crime Unit has recently seen an increase in the number of Fraud incidents involving overpayment scams using the popular website Craigslist and would like to alert residents to take extra caution when responding to posts on the site.These scams typically originate with an individual responding to an item for sale or a rental property. The seller will generally receive a check, via FedEx, UPS or USPS Express Mail and will be for an amount far greater than the purchase price of the item.

CPCU Credit Union and their volunteer Scholarship Committee awarded four scholarships of $1,000 each to college-bound Credit Union members during their annual meeting held on March 31, 2011. Scholarship recipients for the 2011-2012 school year are: Megan Carreiro of Everett, Daisy M. Martins of Somerville, Jessica Alexandra Pires of Somerville and Jessica Tully of Stoneham. Scholarship recipients are selected based on financial need, scholastic merit and the extent of their community and school involvement.

Cambridge Rindge and Latin High School has named John Shea as head varsity football coach, effective immediately.
As head football coach at Middleboro High School from 2008-2010, Shea led the team to the League Championship in 2008. Previously he served as assistant football coach at Pope John High School, and at Cambridge Rindge and Latin High School for the 2003-2004 season.
