The Commonwealth of Massachusetts Human Resource Division has announced the upcoming Open Competitive Examination for Police Officers, scheduled for April 30, 2011. The application deadline for this exam is March 15, 2011.

Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts Announced the first year results of its Alternative Quality Contract (AQC) agreements with physicians and hospitals. The AQC is a modified global payment model, designed to encourage cost-effective, patient centered care by paying participating physicians and hospitals for the quality, not the quantity of the care they deliver.

The event brought together e-vendors and those interested in electronically recording their real estate documents at the Registry of Deeds, thereby alleviating the need to come in person or mail documents, a great convenience to all.

Martha Coakley began her second term as Massachusetts Attorney General on Wednesday, January 19th, 2011 after being sworn in by Chief Justice Roderick Ireland of the Massachusetts Supreme Judicial Court at a ceremony held at the Perkins School for the Blind in Watertown, MA.
Asked to participate in the ceremony was Cambridge Police Lieutenant Pauline Carter-Wells. Wells, a contemporary Irish singer, has performed at over 100 public events and ceremonies, including two appearances singing the National Anthem at Fenway Park.

Cambridge City Manager Robert W. Healy has appointed a nine-person committee to establish a sister city relationship with a community in Haiti. The Cambridge-Haiti Sister City Committee brings together members of the Haitian community in Cambridge and the broader Cambridge population. The committee is being organized and staffed by the Cambridge Peace Commission – a department of the City of Cambridge that promotes peace and social justice, and has responsibility for Cambridge’s sister city relationships.

On December 3, 2010, Cambridge Police Officer Oswaldo Ortiz and staff from Cambridge Youth Centers and Boys & Girls Clubs of Middlesex County brought several Cambridge youths to the Boston Garden to cheer on the Celtics.
Made possible through the Dunkin’ Donuts KidZone program, the group was able to have its picture taken with Celtics legend Cedric Maxwell and cheer on the C’s as they beat the Chicago Bulls 104-92.

The Cambridge Police Department would like to welcome its two newest officers who were sworn in this morning at a small ceremony inside the Robert W. Healy Public Safety Facility located at 125 Sixth Street in Cambridge.
Officer Brendan O’Hearn, 27, and Officer James “Matt” Brown, also 27, are both lateral transfers from the Watertown Police Department and officially began their service to the City of Cambridge this morning at 9:40 AM when they were sworn in by Deputy City Clerk Donna Lopez. Also in attendance at the ceremony were Commissioner Robert C. Haas and members of the Cambridge Police Department Command Staff.

January is National Stalking Awareness Month, a time to focus on a crime that affects 3.4 million victims a year.1 This year’s theme—“Stalking: Know It. Name It. Stop It.”— challenges the nation to fight this dangerous crime by learning more about it.
Stalking is a crime in all 50 states and the District of Columbia, yet many victims and criminal justice professionals underestimate its seriousness and impact. In one of five cases, stalkers use weapons to harm or threaten victims,2 and stalking is one of the significant risk factors for femicide (homicide of women) in abusive relationships.3 Victims suffer anxiety, social dysfunction, and severe depression at much higher rates than the general population, and many lose time from work or have to move as a result of their victimization.4
