The organizers of the 27th Aquidneck Island National Police Parade of Rhode Island, which is taking place on Sunday, have invited Cambridge Police Sergeant James Crowley to be it's grand marshal.
Sgt. Crowley who's arrest of Harvard Professor Henry Louis Gates gained national attention last July when Crowley responded to a burglary 911call in progress.
It was later discovered that the home belonged to the Professor but Crowley still arrested Gates for being disorderly.
President Obama accused Crowley of over reacting and said the Cambridge police had "acted stupidly!" Gates was later released and the charges dismissed.
Crowley along with Gates were both later invited to the White House by the President of the United State to bury the hatchet over a beer.
