Peabody Preschool Earns Accreditation from National Assoc. for the Education of Young Children

   

Cambridge Dept. of Human Service Program Preschools now have NAEYC Accreditation

The Peabody Preschool just received a 96% accreditation score from the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC).  This high score is a mark of excellence under this national association’s new and rigorous standards.  These high scores were given on 10 standards that range from curriculum to parent involvement to health and safety.  The application process, which took a year of preparation, culminated in a site visit where NAEYC Accreditors toured the classroom, observed teaching and reviewed children’s portfolios. 

With this latest accreditation for Peabody Preschool, all City of Cambridge Department of Human Service Program Preschools have now obtained this recognition of high quality, and all of them scored in the 90^th percentile.  This accomplishment is even more remarkable as many area preschools have not been awarded accreditation under the new standards or have decided against applying for it.

“We are very proud of this latest achievement. All of our preschools worked very hard to attain this accreditation,” said Ellen Semonoff, Assistant City Manager for Human Services. “The City of Cambridge invests in such early childhood education programs because it understands that early childhood experience – from birth to age 8 – can positively impact children’s healthy development and lifelong learning.”
