CPCU Credit Union set up collection boxes at both of their Somerville and Cambridge branches to collect much needed toiletry items and canned goods for the Somerville Homeless Coalition (SHC) after an email communication was sent out outlining their disparity for donations. For three weeks before the holidays, CPCU collected in conjunction with their membership, shampoo, conditioner, and soaps as well as non-perishables to donate to SHC. In addition to the collection, CPCU donated many necessities such as baby wipes, toothpaste, soups, etc. in bulk packages to help those in need during the holiday season.
The Somerville Homeless Coalition, among other organizations, has faced a lull in donations this year. Unfortunately, budget cuts from the state have also limited the extent of services they provide. “Many of the areas our membership covers are helped by the efforts of SHC. As a partner of SHC as well as an active member of the community, we want to make sure we help people during this time of need. At the end of the day, we know our efforts are making the holidays a bit brighter for a few families in the area,” commented Rui Domingos, CEO.
This is such a great resource that you are providing and you give it away for free. I love seeing websites that understand the value of providing a quality resource for free. It’s the old what goes around comes around routine.
